LINX — A Mechanical Solution to Reflux Disease

Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) affects millions of patients. While many respond to medication, some continue to struggle with symptoms or prefer a more definitive solution.

The LINX device offers a surgical option designed to augment the lower esophageal sphincter. Comprised of a ring of magnetic beads placed around the esophagus, the device strengthens the natural barrier against reflux while preserving the ability to swallow and belch.

The procedure is performed minimally invasively and typically requires a short hospital stay. Ideal candidates are carefully selected: patients with documented reflux, preserved esophageal motility, and absence of large hiatal hernias.

Unlike traditional fundoplication, LINX does not significantly alter stomach anatomy. It reinforces physiology rather than reconstructing it.

Proper evaluation — including endoscopy, pH testing, and manometry — ensures appropriate candidacy. When carefully applied, LINX can significantly improve quality of life for patients seeking durable reflux control.
