Concomitant transoral incisionless fundoplication (c-TIF) combines laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair with endoscopic fundoplication. This hybrid approach allows correction of the mechanical defect (hernia) while reinforcing the reflux barrier without a traditional wrap.
For select patients with small to moderate hiatal hernias and reflux, c-TIF offers symptom relief with less anatomic alteration than a full Nissen fundoplication.
The collaboration between surgery and advanced endoscopy is central to this technique. It reflects the broader evolution of foregut care — multidisciplinary, technology-driven, and patient-centered.
As with all reflux procedures, careful preoperative evaluation determines success. c-TIF is not appropriate for every patient, but in well-selected individuals it can provide meaningful relief with a minimally invasive approach.
